How to save on house moving costs?

moving

Moving is hard even when you have one of Sydney’s best removalists, Infinity Movers helping you. There are things you can do to save on costs whether you choose to hire professionals or not. Here are some tips when moving on a budget.

Do some meal planning!

Rather than having to give away or worse, waste food, if you do not want to pack it and take it with you, plan your meals in advance to use it up. Especially focus on heavy items like frozen meats and cans so you can lighten the load if you are packing it up. Take a close look at what you have and decide what you can eat and drink in the days before the big day. You can also save money on ordering food on move day and just have something pre-prepared and ready. That usual pizza order could be just turned into homemade pizzas cooked and ready. This is also a good way to check dates on everything and make sure you are not moving out-of-date food with you!

Pack your own things

Most expert removalists will offer different tiers of moving options so you could choose the basic where you get help with the lifting but handle the packing yourself. You can start early with rooms and zones that are not often used. Get organized and make sure you label things clearly. It can help to not just label what is in the box (and be precise) but also what room it is for. You will need to find boxes and packing supplies. You can invest in these things but if you really need to save even here, a lot of places like retail shops will let you take cardboard boxes they no longer need.

De-clutter and sell what you do not need

A good way to get some money for the move is to find things you no longer need or want and sell them before you move. It saves on having to pack them up. You can sell things online starting early, or you can set up a garage sale or head to a car boot sale. There are also some places you can take things in good condition to sell them like pawn shops and consignment shops. Anything you are not able to sell you can give away or recycle. Even things like old blankets can be useful. Animal rescue places will take such things. Or you could use them as part of your packing material.

Packing materials

Packing materials refers to things like bubble wrap, packing foam, shredded paper and such. You can buy these things but there are cheaper alternatives Infinity Movers suggests. You can collect and keep newspapers and wrap glassware and breakables in it. You can use your towels and blankets to wrap things in or fill in spaces in boxes so things do not shift around. Even sleeping bags and tea towels can be used. You just need to wash them when the move is done. When packing clothes use up your luggage and bags first before packing the rest in boxes or black bags.
